The IRS today issued proposed regulations proposing that individuals pay a fee of $33 to take the Registered Tax Return Preparer Competency Examination and $27 for the required fingerprinting. PLEASE NOTE: These fees are only for costs incurred by the IRS. The proposed regulations explicitly state that these fees “are in addition to any reasonable fee charged by a third-party vendor that is approved by the IRS.” A copy of the proposed regulations is attached.
