Some of the PTIN online activation letters that were recently mailed to preparers contained the wrong introductory paragraphs.
The letters erroneously began with "You recently placed a call to the PTIN Information Line..." even though the recipient did not contact the Return Preparer Office.
The online activation code in the letter is still valid for creating an online PTIN account and renewing online.
