IRS Tax Forums go West - Recap of the San Diego Tax Forum pt. 1

The sunny skies of San Diego!  What a great venue being able to sit outdoors and network with our peers! It was a pleasure to present here, and of course, to stay on the west coast.  The attendees in California are always so very welcoming and appreciative of the presence of NSA.  We understand from the IRS that the majority of attendees were new to the Tax Forum this year – we feel this is good news!  More people understanding the need for education and networking as well as the new requirements for CE.

During our sessions at every forum, we are asking the question about the RTRP test – “Who has taken it?” “Who needs to take it by 12/31/2013?” I would say that an average of 50% of the rooms at every venue have indicated that they need to take the RTRP test.  What are they waiting for?  What are you waiting for?  Sign up and get it done BEFORE the rush next year.

Something that happens often at a Tax Forum is an attendee will ask the us speakers a question after the session, when they have realized they are handling a client situation incorrectly. I admire these tax professionals who have the courage to approach their peers, the courage to be honest of what they know and do not know, and the courage to ask for help and guidance.  This is all about raising the level of performance and integrity throughout the tax profession.  All of continue to learn, some at different experience levels or topics than others.   But by sharing, talking, and asking the questions of our peers, we can do a better job for our clients and our businesses. The Tax Forums provide a great opportunity for that networking.
