IRS Tax Forums go West - Recap of the San Diego Tax Forum pt. 2

Believe it or not we are half way through the 2012 IRS Nationwide Tax Forums as of the conclusion of the San Diego Forum. Time really does fly by when you are having fun! It was great to visit with the practitioners in attendance; some were from Washington State and knew exactly where Bellingham and Enumclaw is located. I was surprised by the number of tax professionals from the east coast that were attending and  I really hope that they stayed long enough to enjoy the great southern California weather we were having.

The NSA booth was kept busy with questions concerning what NSA could do for the tax and accounting practitioner as well as people wanting to talk to Kathy and me concerning our experience with taking the RTRP exam. During our presentations we would conduct an impromptu survey of the number of people required to take the exam and the number who had taken and passed the exam. The number of newly minted RTRP’s was dwarfed by the number that still needed to schedule and take the exam. Kathy and I encourage all that need to take the exam schedule your exam time now; you can schedule out to 9 months. In the interest of full disclosure Kathy and I are Enrolled Agents and took the exam so that we could talk to attendees about the experience and the process.

San Diego’s attendees’ most prevalent questions had to do with the subject of self rental and allocating expenses for multi-use and short term rental properties. The QR Code buttons got a work out as people wanted to see the grid that our speaking team put together on “Tax Rules for Mixed Use Property”. So if you’re planning on going to one of the forums in Vegas, Chicago or New York; down load a QR Reader from your Smartphone’s app store and get the immediate gratification of getting some of your NSA speakers’ team excellent resource material before anyone else.

A shot of the team in San Diego- what a great group!
