On December 19, 2012, at 2pm Eastern Time, The "IRS Live" program net broadcast a live video feed about the Registered Tax Return Preparer (RTRP) examination and program. Guests of Moderator Mike Quinn were Carol A. Campbell, Director of the Return Preparer Office (RPO) of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and Preston Benoit, Deputy Director of RPO. The program was loaded with information for the practitioners who intend to take the examination. However, the IRS website has much more information on the topic than was covered in the informative and somewhat entertaining video.
The program was archived so that you can go back and watch it. You can find it at

A short overview of the video would give the impression that Carol and Preston wanted the RTRP candidates who prepare more than the 1040 or wish to represent taxpayers befor the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to take the Special Enrollment Examination (SEE) for the Enrolled Agent designation. They repeatedly made this point in the one-hour long video session.
The session itself was a mixture of a prepared video from the test provider, Prometrics. For those who have never taken a Prometrics examination, the video and information may be essential for you to take the examination. For example, the name on your official government identification must be identical to the name you used when signing up for the examination with Prometrics - if you have "Jr." on your driver's license, you'd better have it on your application to take the test from Prometrics. If the names do not match exactly, you will be denied access to the testing center and will have to reapply.
