NSA and the IRS have joined forces to combat identity theft

The National Society of Accountants is working with the IRS and other professional groups to develop strategies to combat identity theft. The first step will be to create a survey of tax professionals

on topics such as:

• Identifying the scope of identity theft

• How identities are stolen

• At what stage of the tax return process theft occurs (before the tax payer arrives at the preparers office, or after)

• The number of theft incidents

• What tax professionals can do to combat identity theft

The NSA’s Federal Tax Committee will be meeting this afternoon (October 20, 2015) to discuss the questions to be included in this survey. Members are encouraged to offer suggestions for survey questions by emailing them to members@nsacct.org.
