Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Commissioner John Koskinen will deliver the keynote address at the National Society of Accountants (NSA) 69th Annual Meeting, August 20-23, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency Inner Harbor in Baltimore, Maryland.

Koskinen is working to ensure that the IRS maintains an appropriate balance between taxpayer service and tax enforcement and administers the tax code with fairness and integrity. He will speak about this and other tax-related topics and will take questions from the audience following his presentation on Thursday morning, August 21, 2014.

NSA members are “Main Street” tax and accounting professionals who specialize in serving small businesses and individuals. The event will draw accountants and tax professionals from across the nation, and offers continuing education, networking opportunities, EA exam prep and even a special continuing professional education (CPE) program for Maryland tax preparers.

Leading industry speakers will address critical topics including the Affordable Care Act, ethics, practice management, compliance issues, Maryland tax law, fraud, and accounting. A three-day pre-conference Enrolled Agent Exam Review Course will be offered August 18-20.

An industry issues panel discussion will feature National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) President and CEO Ken Bishop; NASBA Chair Carlos Johnson, and others in the industry.

NSA has designated August 22 as “Maryland Tax Preparer Day,” with six hours of continuing professional education (CPE), including two hours on Maryland tax law and two hours on ethics that will satisfy the Maryland Board of Individual Tax Preparers requirement that registered tax preparers in Maryland complete four hours of CPE on Maryland tax-related subjects and two of the four may be satisfied by a federal course on ethics. The day is included in overall Annual Meeting registration or can be purchased separately for $179, which includes lunch.

NSA also established August 23 as “Practice Management for Your Tax Office Day,” which includes a six-hour seminar that will cover vexing issues facing small tax firms and provide common-sense guidance. The day is included in overall Annual Meeting registration or can be purchased separately for $159, which includes breakfast.

An intensive pre-conference NSA Enrolled Agent Exam Review Course will be offered August 18-20. Attendees can choose to attend Part 1: Individuals, Part 2: Businesses, and/or Part 3: Representation, Practices and Procedures. The fee for the Full Course (all three parts) is $595 for NSA members and $699 for nonmembers. Fees for the individual parts can be found at www.nsabaltimore2014.org

NSA is approved as an official provider of CPE by the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Accreditation Council for Accountancy & Taxation (ACAT) and California Tax Education Council (CTEC).

The Annual Meeting kicks off with a crab feast fitting for Baltimore and includes several social events where attendees and can network. “This meeting offers something for everyone, including an opportunity to share ideas, successes, and strategies with small business practitioners from across the country,” said NSA Executive Vice President John Ams. “Our Expo is also packed with providers of the latest products and services designed for ‘Main Street’ practitioners.”

Full conference registration packages are $579 for NSA members and $699 for nonmembers (including a full year of NSA membership) until July 15. After that date, member registration is $679 and nonmember registration is $799.
