Bio

John O. Everett, Ph.D., CPA, is Professor of Accounting at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. John‘s teaching specialty is federal taxation. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi and his Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University.

John has authored or coauthored over 90 articles in academic and professional journals, and has presented a number of papers at conferences. He is the coauthor of several textbooks, including CCH Practical Guide to Schedule M-3 Compliance, The HBJ Federal Tax Course, Income Tax Fundamentals, and Tax Planning With the Computer. John, Cherie Hennig, and Nancy Nichols recently authored Contemporary Tax Practice: Research, Planning, and Strategies, a comprehensive reference and graduate-level textbook published by CCH/Wolters Kluwer. He is also the coeditor and coauthor of TaxPoint, published by Thomson Publishing as the first interactive tax textbook on the Web. John has served as a speaker and instructor for numerous professional education programs, including the national training courses of Ernst & Young and McGladrey.

John is active in several national organizations. He is a former President of the American Taxation Association and continues to serve on several committees. He is a member of the American Accounting Association and has served on its governing Council. He received the Distinguished Professor Award (1989) and the Distinguished Achievement in Research Award (1986) from the VCU School of Business. He shared the ACIPA Tax Article of the Year Award in 2002 and again in 2005 for articles on the alternative minimum tax and depreciation recapture. John received the Outstanding Service Award of the American Taxation Association in 2004.

In August, 2007, John was presented with the Ray M. Sommerfeld/Ernst & Young Outstanding Educator Award by the American Taxation Association. This is a lifetime achievement award presented by the premier academic taxation association.

John has worked on the Enrolled Agent Exam Review Course for over ten years, and is pleased to continue this collaboration with the National Society of Accountants.
