William Silzer, ABA, ATP, is a seasoned and accomplished accountant, with over 35 years of experience in providing strategic business and tax accounting services to individuals and businesses throughout the United States. Bill has also served as Controller, Vice President of Finance and Accounting, and Chief Financial Officer in the corporate world, and has served on the Boards of Directors of several companies. For 6 years Bill was the Controller of a DC Government non-profit in charge of all Blind Vendors operating in the federal buildings in the DC area. In addition, for 9 years he was the Controller and Director of Administration of a non-profit large housing coop in DC.
Bill belongs to several professional organizations including NSA, VSTAP (ASV), GAATP, and ACAT. He holds key leadership positions at the local, state, and national levels, including VSTAP President, ASV - PAC Treasurer, NSA Chief Administrative Chair, NSA Administrative Chair of Long Range Planning Committee, NSA Leadership Development Committee Member, and Presenter at the 2017 NSA LNC.
Bill has also served as NSA Senior Governor for 2 years, NSA Governor of District III for 4 years, NSA Appointed Chair of the Budget Committee, NSA Chair of the Building Task Force, member on the NSA Long Range Planning Committee, Chairman of the ACAT SME Panel for the ATA exam, member of the NSA Budget Committee, and NSA Board of Governors Chair of the Budget Oversight Committee. One of Bill's significant contributions was his rebuilding of ASV into a more stable and vibrant organization by assembling a management team dedicated to seeing a restored society. Bill received a Distinguished Service Award for his dedication as President of ASV from 2008 to 2014.
Bill strongly believes in ACAT's mission to accredit professionals who have demonstrated knowledge of the principals, practices, and ethical standards of accounting, taxation, information technology, and related financial services. Bill, a graduate of the NSA Leadership Development Program, holds the ACAT ABA and ATP credentials. He has also been named as an NSA Go Getter and is a strong believer that NSA membership is essential to any individual interested in staying current in the constantly changing fields of accounting, tax, and finance. In addition, he believes that the main street accountant serves a vital role in meeting the financial and taxation needs of individuals and America's small businesses.
Bill, a life-long Virginia resident, is blessed to be married to a wonderful and very special lady (Sandy) since 1991. When not working, Bill enjoys quiet time with his wife; travel to the mountains, beaches and wineries; playing bridge; boating; and coin collecting.
