Ethics in the Eye of the Beholder: What Conduct is Most Likely to Result in Discipline under Circular 230?

Karen Hawkins, former Director of the Office of Responsibility, will discuss the provisions in Treasury Department Circular 230 used most frequently in identifying practitioner misconduct warranting discipline during her six-year tenure. Specific examples from real cases will be described. She will also identify and discuss key provisions in the regulations of which practitioners should be particularly wary and provide practice pointers for dealing with OPR if you are investigated.
