MSATP Taxation of Shared Economy

Between 20 to 30 percent of working age individuals in the U.S. have engaged in independent or freelance work via the sharing economy. Tax advisors need to be aware of the unique tax aspects of the various sharing economy platforms that their clients may use. The program will cover the scope of the sharing economy, various policy considerations associated with the new economy, business considerations for clients participating in the sharing economy and tax issues affecting sharing economy participants. The presenter will discuss income tax, employment tax, and state and local tax issues related to the sharing economy.
